B is for Bondage

Under the right circumstances when tied up with restricted movement, we can enter into subspace, where we experience a release of adrenaline and endorphins in the body and our mental state can alter into a state of pure bliss, where everything else disappears. It can be a beautiful place to surrender into, especially for those of us who are consistently 'in control" and dominating in our lives.

Subspace can be really easy to access for some people some or all of the time, with some or all parters and in some or all contexts. While for others it may not be so easy and require specific sets of circumstances to occur.

Hiring a professional rigger, aka shibari practitioner to experience this with can be one way in which you can access this element of your pleasure, or practicing with someone that you can trust. Connect in with your local kink community to find people who are well versed in this aspect of sexuality. It is important to go into this field prepared, with people that you can trust, especially if you have experienced any kind of trauma where you have been bound or held down. Aftercare is extremely important and you only want to go into a bondage scene and subspace if this is available to you.

There are many ways one can experience bondage such as handcuffs, suction beds, rope, tape, and even bondage of the mind- being told you can't move- or else.

Bondage is what the 'B' is referring to in BDSM. If BDSM is something you are interested in, or wary of, I have written a research paper on it which you can find here. I will also be writing a blog post about it in the next "B is for... series".

If you are interested in exploring kink and don't know where to start I have a mini course here, as well as a four week program here.
